NFMC Festivals offer opportunities for students of all ages and abilities
Both Juniors and Adults earn recognition for their musical accomplishments through Certificates and points toward Award Trophies
Federation encourages participation of students who have disabilities or visual impairments
Federation students are eligible for local and national scholarships
As students advance through the different classes, they can see a visual record of their progress
Students get impartial ratings and comments from experienced evaluators
Festivals are held in a non-competitive setting where family and friends are welcome to attend
Students that participate in other critiqued events have an opportunity to implement an evaluator’s suggestions and play their pieces again in a recital setting
Students hear and support fellow musicians in their community

The Choice Piece must follow the guidelines listed at the beginning of each event section and General Rules
Multiple Events
NFMC Festivals are designed for entrants to participate in multiple events. With so many events, teachers have the flexibility to create and modify goals for each student individually. Motivate and encourage your students to study and practice by having them participate in the multiple events supported by NFMC.

The Exam Driven Student

Theory Event
Entrants can start at level 1 in any year of their music studies
Tests follow the Theory Time workbooks
Sight-Playing Event
90 second study period,
4 – 16 measure examples based on level
This event is correlated to the solo performance level and is for Ratings ONLY
Technique and Improvisation Event
Entrants perform technique as listed in the Bulletin
Students play melody line of folk song, then perform an improvisation following the rhythm guidelines in the Bulletin
Entrants can start at level 1 in any year of their music studies
Points are earned in each event separately, and cannot be combined
What To Expect on Festival Day
Students Expectations
Students will be arranged in one-hour recitals throughout the Festival Day.
Recital Times cannot be requested, but siblings can be scheduled in the same recitals
Students perform, and are evaluated in front of an audience of their peers, family, teachers and friends.
Long Distance Learning students may participate in Festival, by performing at a scheduled Zoom Recital
Students must dress in appropriate recital attire and stay until the end of their recital
Teacher Responsibilities
Teachers must agree to volunteer with festival operations for either a half to full day, depending on their participating students’ performance time
Teachers are responsible for following all festival bulletin rules and repertoire guidelines
Evaluations and Certificates will be given to teachers at the end of the Festival Day.
Teachers fill out their students’ individual certificates and distribute their students awards
